アウン・ミャッテー／ミャンマー
ミャンマーのマンダレーに生まれ、現在はヤンゴンで活動をしています。SOCAオルタナティブ芸術ラーニングプログラムの創設者でもあり、アーティスト、ライター、キュレーターとして知られています。
《土地の亡霊》では豊かな森林と海を背景に、東南アジアの仏教圏の物語に登場する人や動物が現れては消えていきます。数多くの民族、文化、言語、宗教がせめぎあう地域に広がる輪廻転生の思想のように、イメージ同士は複雑に結びつきます。伝統的な造形に現代的な感覚を取り入れ、社会的なメッセージを表現するアーティストです。
Born 1973 in Mandalay, Myanmar. Artist and independent curator. He began training in bronze sculpture with his father at an early age. He received his art education at the State-run School of Fine Arts and received his BFA from the University of Arts and Culture in Yangon. He has done international residencies in the United States, Europe, and Asia for further study.
While working as an art instructor, he explores the possibilities of freedom of expression found in contemporary art, incorporating traditional forms with contemporary sensibilities and expressing social messages. He is also the founder of the SOCA Alternative Art Learning Program and is well known in Myanmar’s art community as an artist and curator.
Recent major exhibitions include “Consciousness of Realities” (2019, Myanm/art Gallery Space, Yangon, Myanmar), “Dining-Room Opera” (2014, Rooster Gallery, New York, USA), ” Calling Memory” (2012, Koganecho Bazaar 2012, Yokohama, Japan).
